Riesling "Ried Steinertal"
The ‘Ried Steinertal’ Riesling displays superb concentration with well-defined aromas of white peach, lime peel and wild herbs on the nose. The palate is deep and complex, matched by mouth-watering acidity and a long, mineral finish. This unique site is situated at the eastern end of the Wachau, between the Loibenberg and the Pfaffenberg vineyards. Its form depicts a rift, which broadens into an amphitheatre as it reaches down towards the river. The site is also affected by its proximity to the nearby forest, from which nightly northerly breezes cool the vineyard. This makes Steinertal the most cool, and slow ripening single-vineyard site, one of the secrets to its phenolic complexity.
F.X. Pichler
Based in Austria’s most prestigious region, the Wachau, F.X. Pichler are one of the world’s foremost producers of Riesling and Grüner Veltliner. They are truly monumental dry white wines. Franz Xaver (the eponymous F.X.) inherited the estate in 1971, and was instrumental in the rise to prominence of both his family’s winery and the Wachau. His son Lucas (the fifth generation) now makes the wine, but F.X. is still an active presence in the vineyards.
